Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour Feel free to swap for a gluten-free blend if desired.
  • 2 tsp baking powder This will give our fritters that lovely rise.
  • 0.5 tsp kosher salt Just a pinch to enhance all those sweet flavors.
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon The heart and soul of our dish.

Wet Ingredients

  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter (melted) Adds richness and flavor.
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar To balance the tartness of the apples.
  • 1 large egg The binding agent.
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract Elevates the taste.
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened applesauce Keeps the fritters moist; can use mashed banana as substitute.

Filling

  • 1.5 cups finely diced apples (Honeycrisp or Gala) Choose crisp apples for a delightful crunch.

Glaze

  • 2 cups powdered sugar For glazing the fritters.
  • 1.33 cups apple cider or juice Fresh apple cider will give a wonderful fruity glaze.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a nonstick baking sheet.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, kosher salt, and cinnamon until combined.
  • In another bowl, mix the melted butter with the granulated sugar. Once blended, add the egg, vanilla extract, and applesauce, whisking until smooth.
  • Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture gently until just combined. Then, fold in the diced apples.
  • Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop tablespoon-sized portions onto your prepared baking sheet, spacing them out.

Baking

  • Pop them in the oven and bake for about 10 minutes or until golden brown. Broil for a minute for extra caramelization if desired.

Glazing

  • For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar with apple cider until smooth and brush over the warm fritters right when they come out of the oven.

Serving

  • Serve them warm, optionally dusting with more powdered sugar, syrup, or a scoop of ice cream.

Notes

These fritters are delicious on their own but can also be served with whipped cream or maple syrup. Consider adding chopped walnuts or pecans for extra crunch.
