Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened Opt for full-fat for maximum creaminess; vegan alternatives work too.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it’s softened to room temperature; vegan butter can be used.
  • 2 cups powdered sugar Sifting it first helps avoid lumps.
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Go for high-quality cocoa; Dutch-processed for milder, natural for bolder flavor.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Pure vanilla enhances flavor.
  • 1-2 tbsp milk (if needed) Use whole milk or cream for richness; nut milks suitable for dairy-free.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing until well combined to avoid sugar dust.
  • Pour in the vanilla extract and mix until smooth. Taste to ensure flavor satisfaction.
  • If the frosting is too thick, drizzle in milk one tablespoon at a time until reaching desired consistency.
  • Use immediately to frost cakes or cupcakes.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 5-7 days. Can be frozen for longer storage. For best results, always use room temperature ingredients.
